Can the Hero Player allow a hero to exit an adventure in the middle of a game?
If
the Hero Player started a game with more than one hero, he or she
doesn’t have to end the game with all of them. The narrative may call
for one of the heroes to go off on a tangential adventure, or maybe
things just get too dangerous. Whatever the reason, a Hero Player is
never forced to keep all of his or her heroes active in a game.
Can the Hero Player add a new hero to an adventure in the middle of a game?
During
a game, only a Sidekick (page 50) may be added to the Hero Player's
roster of characters. A totally new hero that was not part of the Hero
Player's intended cast of main characters may not be added. However, the
Hero Player is free to have his or her starting heroes enter the
narrative at any time. It's a narrative choice that
the Hero Player is free to make in the first Action Scene that
establishes the Adventure Location for each round.
Can more than one hero act in a
single Action Scene? Specifically, can they aid each other or
collaborate to increase their impact?
Impact
cannot be increased in a single Action Scene using the abilities of two
different heroes. However, there may be a way for one hero's Action
Scene to "assist" the subsequent Action Scene of a different hero,
allowing the Hero Player to "push" for a little extra impact! Additionally,
always remember that when a hero is the impact focus of an Action
Scene, it doesn't mean that the other heroes are just standing around
watching what the acting hero is doing. Every hero may be engaged in
something at all times, but it is the hero whose Suit Ability or Special
FX has been activated by accessing the Tableau who is impacting the
narrative at that moment. For example, four heroes could be
simultaneously (and most valiantly) attacking a terrifying monster, but
it is the hero whose Suit Ability is in the spotlight who moves the
narrative forward.
This could be extremely helpful when trying to bump up the impact of a Character Assumption.
What’s the difference between a hero's Low Impact Suit Abilities and Character Assumptions?
DURING a game, a Low Impact Suit Ability will affect the narrative action to the same relative degree as a Character Assumption.
However,
AFTER a game, a Low Impact [1] Suit Ability may be permanently
increased to Moderate level [2] if it was used in at least three
different rounds of the same game (pages 18-19). A Character Assumption
may never be permanently increased.
Would
a Hero Player have to use additional cards of matching suits in the
Tableau to increase the impact of a hero's Character Assumption?
Yes. Character Assumptions still follow the basic rules of Hero Player Action Scenes.
On
page 42, it says, "Low Impact is the usual impact level for [Character
Assumptions], but the Hero Player could argue for a higher impact level
if the current situational context justifies it." Arguing for increased
impact starts with having the additional suits to use in the first
place.
Can a wildcard be accessed for a hero's Special FX?
A
wildcard may be accessed “as any card the active player wants,” so a
wildcard may indeed be accessed as a Special FX even if a hero’s actual
Special FX card had appeared in the same or an earlier round.
Can the optional hero vehicle rules be used in only one round per game?
The optional vehicle rules
can be used in as many rounds as the Hero Player can convince the World
Player to use them. The only restriction is that once players are
engaged in a "vehicle round," they're committed.
