Original Worlds

Our imaginations require the smallest of embers to create bonfires of meaning, and human beings rely on this ability to successfully move through the various stages of their lives. When children try to make sense out of the world from the odds and ends scattered before them, they fill in the gaps of their knowledge with rudimentary logic and unabashed invention, taking what they know and what they devise and combining it all into a new paradigm that works for them in the moment.

By uniting the power of suggestion with the meaning-making engine in our heads, little is needed to take flights of fancy into new realms of existence. The right combination of words can launch any open-minded, creative individual into a brand new reality, and that is what the World vs. Hero gaming experience tries to promote.

So, a “world” of 150-200 words is most definitely enough to commence the storytelling process. Unique combinations of phrases, descriptions, or concepts will encourage inspiration, allowing the players to respond with characters and conflicts that bring vitality and depth to the evocative simplicity that ignites the narrative adventure. With careful consideration and attention to word choice, a WvH World Description – though modest in size – has the potential to be the catalyst of an ongoing epic.

In this section of the site, there are examples of original worlds that all started with a single paragraph and then became so much more!
